Not getting a crib?

Question

Anybody else thinking about not getting a crib?  I honestly plan on our baby being with us in our room until they're about a year. By then I figure when I transition them into their own room I can just transition them into a toddler bed. Anybody else done this?
I feel like the only reason I would be buying a crib is because everybody else is...  we don't have a lot of space and I'm just thinking it may not be necessary for us!

I was a nanny for twin 16 month olds who never used a crib. They had floor mattresses so they were very close to the ground, less then 6 inches to fall. Their room was completely child proof with a baby lock on the door, just a few simple calm toys in the room. It was the first time I had seen that. It worked great for them. They had learned how to put themselves to sleep when tired. They would be playing then decide it was nap time. And if they woke up they could entertain themselves safely in the room for a few minutes until someone got them. they rarely cried waking up or going to sleep. It was pretty cool, made me want to try it myself one day so started researching it. Look up Montessori floor bed

I skipped the crib with my first. She went straight from our room to a single bed in her own room at 9 months. She sleeps on a pull-out trundle bed though so she's close to the ground. I'll be moving her to the big bed soon though and just put rails up.

I’m going to be room sharing for a year as well so I am getting a mini crib. It lasts longer that a bassinet and I’m a crazy sleeper so I’m not gonna cosleep. When we eventually move the baby into its own room I’m gonna have a floor bed for um

I think 9 months is a little young for a toddler bed but that’s up to you. I’d be worried about them falling off.

I wish I’d skipped the crib. It was expensive and rarely used.

My son is a light sleeper. Even at 2 months he still wakes up from my spouse snoring or changing positions in bed. Hubby works out of town Mon - Friday so it's okay. But if he was home all week I would have had our son in his own room as soon as he was doing 4 hour stretches. He would need it. 
Only saying this so you keep an open mind about a crib in case your baby is similar to mine.

We will buy a crib, but we're in no hurry. I'm planning on him sleeping in our room with us the same timeframe my son did, which was 6 months. But at 6 months there's no way in heck he's ready for a toddler bed lol. My son transitioned to a toddler bed around 18 months-2 years. 
I would consider getting one at some point, because eventually they may climb out of a pack n play, and I really wouldn't put a baby under a year in a toddler bed. I wasn't ready for mine to transition to a toddler bed and he was nearly 2 😂
