How do you feel about Baby led weaning?

My boy just turned 6 months and I'm considering trying the baby led weaning. But want to get some opinions on it first. Did you try it? If so how did it go?

We loved it. Never once touched a puree.

We did baby-led weaning with our daughter. I never even considered purees. Purees do absolutely nothing for them developmentally. Baby-led weaning teaches them how to feed themselves, helps them develop their fine motor skills, introduces them to various textures and flavors, teaches them how to chew, etc. Purees don't do any of that.

We did a mix of finger food and purées. Purée only lasted a few weeks as I was keen to help her get used to different textures. She was eating the same as us very quickly. She’s been a fab eater ever since (nearly 3 yrs).

I tried really hard to make it work but my daughter just isn’t interested. I would have loved to start her on fresh whole unprocessed foods but every kid is different and it wasn’t in the cards for us.

I wasn’t ok doing anything that forced my child to regularly protect his airway by gagging. That said, he moved quickly through purees to soft solids and finger foods within a matter of weeks. I followed his lead so...still sounds like “baby-led” to me.

We tried purees at first but as soon as she had real food, that was it. She would not eat purees anymore. It's been a huge success for her. She manages to smoosh most things down pretty well with her gums.

Love it :) my son is a champ at eating now and eats everything. Best and easiest thing I ever did!
