Do you think it’s okay to argue with your SO?

We are all different and have different points of view but.... How much arguing with your SO do you consider normal? Where do you draw the line on arguing/fighting? Do you think it’s okay for a couple to argue sometimes?

I think it’s fine and expected for healthy couples to get in little tiffs. It’s a problem if there is manipulation, intimidation, and / or degradation involved. Also, if one partner takes silly things and makes it into an argument all the time. There’s a disagreement, an argument, and a fight. Disagreements are more common and fine. Arguments should be less common and imo fighting should not happen and isn’t really healthy. It’s kind of hard to put a number on how often is normal but I feel like it’s kind of weird if two people spend a lot of time together and never get in small arguments.

Yes, its perfectly normal and necessary for a relationship to progress. When you’re that close to a person you’re bound to butt heads at some point, whether it’s in a platonic, familial, or romantic relationship. As long as the arguments are productive and don’t get extremely toxic (physical violence, name calling, etc) than its normal. If a couple finds themselves constantly arguing and never reaching a conclusion or mutual understanding, then that’s when they should consider separating.

So I share this on every “fighting” post. 
My husband and I believe in fair fighting rules. 
Arguing and having disagreements is very normal and healthy in a relationship. When you put two imperfect humans in one household and add in stressors like children, finances, differing schedules, in-laws, household chores, and other normal parts of life, you’re going to have disagreements, fights, and arguments. It’s natural. 
It’s only unhealthy if it’s constant, unproductive, and/or crosses into emotional abuse. 
So, we keep fair fighting rules in place in order to prevent these things.

Arguing is expected and even healthy, if it’s done in a constructive way. If you’re physically or verbally assaulting the person, using bad language or name calling, then that isn’t a healthy way to argue. If you’re screaming and saying hurtful things, that isn’t healthy. Sometimes the screaming or hurtful words might happen, but as long as it isn’t abusive in nature, then I’d say it’s “normal” to an extent. But ideally, arguing and fights with a significant other should be kept at a fairly normal volume and should only consist of both people explaining what is wrong in an adult like and mature manner. As far as frequency...I’d say once a week tops is normal. My spouse and I argue maybe once every other week. Sometimes once a month maybe. It depends.

We fight over petty shit.. I was married 7 years before I got with him. He was single for 5 years before we got together, he’s not use to “answering” to anyone.. I’m use to always being in the loop and in a sense, making sure everything goes accordingly lol so our fights are dumb as fuck. Me feeling neglected emotionally, him feeling “controlled”... the usual. Yes arguing is normal, but don’t let it get out of hand... at some point couples start disrespecting each other in front of company.. or just constantly bickering and it becomes awkward to be around.

Every couple is gonna argue about something even petty things; people arent uber compatible robots. When you're arguing everyday and saying hurtful things and cant reconcile, it's a problem and you should seek counseling.

It's healthy to have a spat every now and again. Fighting all the time is not normal, physical violence is also not normal. And being emotionally abusive is not normal.
