Baby on the way and my dog...Help!

K

Hey everyone, so I’m a FTM here and currently 30 weeks. My husband and I have 2 male dogs who have been like our kids for the last 4 and 5 years. They are great dogs, very loving and laid back. Definitely house trained of course and they get a lot of time outside to run and play each day (weather permitting).

However, within the last 2 months our one dog who is a basset hound/beagle/lab mix, has been peeing in the house. It’s gotten increasingly worse from just 1 or 2 spots to a lot of different areas. It’s not always a lot of pee, sometimes just a little like he’s marking his territory. The other dog isn’t doing it at all.

We took him to the vet thinking he had a UTI or something as he never has accidents in the house and was quite frankly the easiest puppy to house train. The vet ruled out anything health related and said it must be behavioral. We keep the house very clean and when he does do this, we use a special spray to deodorize and neutralize the areas as we have read to do online. I work from home so they are rarely alone, he will do it when we’re just in the other room. He knows it’s wrong as then he will avoid us and go downstairs because he knows he will be in trouble (we try to give the stern “no” when they misbehave). We haven’t even finished setting up the nursery or baby stuff yet, that room is still quite empty.

Have any of you had behavioral issues with any of your dogs like this when you were expecting or brought the new baby home?? If so, what did you do/what suggestions do you have?? We love him dearly and re-homing is not an option, but we cannot have this happening in our house as we want it clean for baby and do not want there to be a smell either.
