Induction?

Question

I was asked at my appointment today if I wanted my body to come to labor naturally or get induced, my question is, how was your induction?
I’m a ftm so I’ve never been through this and I’m not quite sure what to do. My father lives far and I would like him to be here so I’m considering induction but I also want to hear personal experiences because I’ve heard the good and the bad.

In general, no one should induce unless you have health issues that means you HAVE to. It’s always always always better for the baby to come on their own time. I know it’s tempting. But induction is not natural. Contractions come faster and harder and that is hard on the baby. There’s risks and it always raises your chances of c section. 
There’s lots of horror stories and lots of happy stories. You’ll get a mix. I’m sorry you’re even being offered this. I think it’s extremely irresponsible of the doctors to offer inductions for no reason. 
If you have a low risk pregnancy and you and baby are healthy - why introduce risks by inducing when you currently don’t have ANY risks? Ya know?

I was induced with my first and had a great experience. I was already dilated to a 5 and 100% thinned out so I’m sure that made everything run smoother. I was only in labor for 6 hours before I had her.

I have had 2 very successful inductions. 
My first was at 41w because my OB didn’t feel comfortable with my going any longer. I was 0cm and 0% at the start of my induction. We used Cervadil to soften my cervix first. It was in from about 10pm to 1am. I was then started on pitocin. My water broke around 2am and I continues to have some very very strong contractions. I got my epidural at 9am and delivered my daughter before noon. 
My second induction was voluntary at 39w because I never went into labor with my first and research shows inductions are actually best during the 39th week. I was 1cm and 60% when the induction started. We used a foley bulb and it was placed at 9am and pitocin was started. I got my epidural much earlier this time so it was placed around 11am I believe. I had my son at 9pm that night. I did need a second degree episiotomy because his HR was in the 60s and not rebounding while I was pushing. I also had to have a catheter placed so water would be reintroduced to my uterus because he wasn’t handling contractions well. After I delivered we knew why he was having so many problems. His cord was wrapped around his neck twice and around his shoulder and back (like a crossed over bag). His distress or low HR would have been a problem had the labor not been induced and I actually would have had a higher chance of a csection had I waited (according to my OB) because he would have been bigger and there would have been more pressure on the cord. 
I hope to go into labor on my own with this baby. However I do have an induction scheduled for 39+5 if she doesn’t. (And I’m only waiting that long because my daughter has a dance recital that I refuse to miss because I scheduled it that way). 
You do what you and your doctor feel is best for you and your baby.

please remember that it takes 40 weeks to grow a baby and unless 100% medically necessary you want your baby to stay in until 40 weeks so that they have enough time for all their systems to grow. I know the end stage is hard I’m currently 38+4 and working full time until I go into labor. Please just be patient, do not rush this process. Your body is amazing and will do what it needs to when the time is right.

With my second I was induced at 40W because my water had been leaking for 2 weeks. Now I don’t know if this is because of the induction, but I remember them calling a code and nurses running into the room pushing my child father out of the way and 2-3 nurses were pushing down on my stomach. I remember laying there smiling while they kept telling me to push and I couldn’t. Finally I pushed one big time and she came out with the cord around her neck and her shoulder was stuck to where they almost had to break it to get her out.

I was induced with my second at 41 weeks. I had a good experience and he came pretty fast and thankfully when my balloon fell out(I didn’t know it had) I progressed fast on my own and they didn’t have to insert another. The contractions were way more painful then I remember with my first. They came strong and quick for me. I went in around sometime mid morning and after paper work and getting prepped and hooked up and all that good stuff  I basically bounced on the ball and moved my hips and done a lot of squatting to get things moving along. I started to have strong contractions that late evening and progressed fast. I got my epidural around 7 the next morning and had my son a little after noon. I pray if I have to be induced with my baby girl it’s as good as an experience as with him!!
