Can you plan a c section?

Can you pick a date to do it or does it have to be an emergency and a last resort during labour?

If you need a c-section for medical reasons it is scheduled.  As far as elective cesareans go a lot of doctors won’t even perform one for no reason.  If you get a doctor to agree then most insurance companies won’t cover the procedure because you didn’t need it.  If you don’t need one you shouldn’t have one.

I am having a planned c-section on 5/17/19. I got to pick he date as long as it was no more than 3 days after I hit 39 weeks. This is baby#2 and our first ended in an emergency c-section. I have a high risk pregnancy (35 years old, gestational diabetes). Since our first was a 36 hour labor and they induce you anyways at 39 weeks, my doctor recommended I get a planned c-section.

You can plan one if you’ve had a previous csection. If there is no medical need though and you haven’t had a csection in the past then be careful because a lot of insurance wont cover elective csections and they are expensive
