Shes finally here!!! (Long birth story)

Sam

Welcome Luna Phoenix. Born April 27 @9:43 PM. Weighing 7 lbs 8 oz and measuring at 19 inches

I'll cut out the boring parts, about 2 weeks ago my bloody show came and we went to get checked out at the hospital just to make sure the bleeding wasnt anything more than show and were told baby girl would likely come naturally in 24 hours but I was barely dilated. No luck.... I had also had a lot of strong period-like pains the morning I had my first show.

A few days later I woke up with more of the same pain and more show but still not go time. Grrrr

At my doctors appointment the doctor scheduled my induction (due to gestational hypertension that was getting hard to manage) for the next day or 2 depending on how busy our hospital is.

I was still hopefully to go into labor naturally but had no luck with that.

Finally after waiting 4 days from my scheduled date, I was finally called to be induced.

I went in to the hospital April 27 at 12:30 PM, they did an NST for a couple hours while getting me hooked up to penicillin since I was GBS positive, and then checked me. I was at 3.5 cm so they used prostaglandin gel. I started having contractions fast after that and they were LOW in my pelvis. Hard to explain but made us wonder if we would have time to get that second dose of penicillin in. My plans of having a natural birth went out the window because I was just very uncomfortable. Since this was our last baby (we have one other beautiful girl who just turned 2 last month) I decided to get the epidural to enjoy my delivery.

Anyway, the nurse came in to check vitals again and I asked about an epidural, she checked me and I was 5 cm. So they got to work on getting the anesthesiologist up to the room. Got the epidural and literally couldn't feel the contractions. It was sweet relief.... for about 30 mins. Now, with my first daughter I was about 6 or 7 cm when I got my epidural and the anesthesiologist had pretty well just left when my body decided it was going to fully dilate and be ready to push... my body doesn't waste time.

That being said, I started having a TON of pressure and horrible horrible pain again that felt like before the epidural went in. I told the nurse I had the urge to push. She checked me again and I had jumped up to a 9 and the membrane was bulging! She told me to breathe through the urge to push and wait until the doctor came in if I could. Baby's started to decel but they got us in a good position quickly and she stabilized.

I was in so much pain everytime I contracted because her head was right at the exit door. Nurse checked again and I was fully dilated and babies head was RIGHT there and POP the membrane popped. Let me tell ya, that's a weird feeling. Still had to resist the urge to push until doctor came in.

When the doctor came in I think I had regained some composure and had such a great support system from the nurses and my husband that I was able to breathe through each contraction. The minute the doctor walked in the nurse told her how well I was doing at breathing through each urge to push and baby was descending naturally.

The doctor told me we could try pushing whenever i was ready, I asked about "breathing baby out" and she said that's totally possible if that's what I wanted, we would just do a few small pushes to get her head out.

Well to say she was born fast is an understatement. I pushed very gently at 9:41 when the urge to push came, her head came out almost instantly and at 9:43 she was on me. 9:50 I delivered the placenta. Had to get stitched up for a mild second degree tear but it feels so much better than the tear for my first. She literally fell out of me lol.

So basically went in to the hospital at 12:30 PM and had her almost exactly 9 hours later. In active labor maybe 30 mins. What can I say, I'm efficient lol.
