Stella Rose!

Katie

On April 23, 2019 at 7 PM we went to the hospital to be induced for hypertension. I was 3 centimeters dilated. They finally started the pitocin at 8 and kept it at a low dose of 2 until midnight. After that, they kept increasing it by 2 every so often. I didn't really feel the contractions too much. Just a tightening in my belly, not painful. The nurses were impressed with my high pain tolerance. My doctor wanted an update by 6 am so they checked my cervix again and I was still a 3. They decided to break my water to get things rolling. They broke my water about 6:15 and that's when the contractions started getting really intense. I got my epidural at 7:45 and it was such a relief. The nurses had me laying on my left side with a peanut ball between my legs to help keep my pelvis open so baby could move down. Since the epidural is a gravity drug, I started feeling contractions again on my right side. They checked my cervix a little after 10 and I had progressed to a 5. My doctor wanted another update by 11 so they checked my cervix again and I had progressed to an 8 in less than an hour! I finally got my epidural fixed with another dose. They checked me again at noon and I was 10 centimeters but they wanted me to labor for another hour to hopefully get baby down. The nurses came in a little after 1 to get me ready for pushing. My entire bottom half was so numb that I was deadweight. I started practice pushing at 1:10 and they called the doctor to deliver the baby. My doctor told me to push while she got ready. I did one push and they all started yelling, "Stop! Stop! Stop!" I yelled I did and then asked what was wrong. Apparently with that one push, I head half of Stella's head out and the doctor had to stop her without gloves on or her gown. She got ready and told me to give the slightest push and Stella was here! She was so unexpectedly tiny! The doctor said she was going to be jabbing my belly a little bit to encourage the placenta to come out because when the baby comes out that fast the placenta doesn't realize it so it needs help. Well, she gave one tug and the placenta was delivered, proving her wrong. I ended up with a second degree tear next to my urethra and a bunch of other lacerations. Stella Rose made her debut on April 24, 2019 at 1:33 PM weighing in at 6 lbs 5 oz and 18 inches long.
