I am a minority in this country (Asian). I even hate to mention that fact. I go to the daycare to pick and drop the kids everyday and smile at every mother I run into in the hallway. I always get a smile back, or even better, a hi or "they are so cute" about my kids. What's mind blowing is the smiles I get back are from other Asians, black moms and some times white moms. Mind you, some of them are really really nice with a genuine smile. But most of the white moms don't bother to smile back or rudely ignore or roll their eyes at me. The place is too small to not notice someone's smile and how fast can you really walk when you are holding your kid's hand? I know this thing is quite prevalent in the United States but I didn't expect this from other mothers. I'm definitely worried about the kids and the next generations. The same thing happened when I was in the neighborhood. The lady almost smiled, noticed me and really rudely turned her head away. There's no way you can mistake about these things so I am not imagining.

While I cannot change the whole country, if you are one of these women, please smile back. Be human. You don't have white blood inside. It's just skin and it's not our fault we were not born white. Doesn't make you supreme or superior either. And the teachers caring for your kids are not all white either. If you are not one of them, I cannot appreciate you enough. So here's my smile for you 🙂
