I wasn't going to share my story unless...

Mazma

Ok, so a little bit of background story. My first son was born via c-section due to me not dilating more than 3cm even after 8 hours of labour. So, this time around I really wanted to give my body a chance to do what it's supposed to do and try for a VBAC. I really wanted to feel the process of a vaginal birth.

I told my obgyn on the first appointment that I want to try for a VBAC, but she didn't seem that interested. She told me how it would be very hard, how there wouldn't be any other doctors in the hospital in case of emergency so she had to be around me throughout the whole labour. She also mentioned how the baby or me could die. Honestly, the way she said about the baby dying, I was having second thoughts about trying for VBAC. I did some research and realized that repeat c-sections have many risks as well. Also, my hospital had a high rate of VBAC compared to any other hospitals in the city. So on my next appointment, even though I was scared, told her I wanted to try for VBAC. She was like ok, but I have to go on labour by myself, before my due date, she won't use any medical interventions. Also, if she was out of town, I'll have to have c-section. I was just glad that she was atleast giving the chance to try. I started walking for 1hour, light exercises, kegels squatting, sitting on birthing ball everyday and what not! Oh, and I did perineal massage for the last few weeks as well. Even though I didn't have any hope, as my doctor had a high rate of c-section. All the VBAC articles I read about, the first thing they recommend is to find a doctor who really supports VBAC, which was definitely not my case.

On the morning of my 37.5 week appointment, I lost my mucus plug. I had a feeling that I was going to have the baby by coming week. I was happy that I might not go over my due date and try for VBAC! So I went to my appointment only to find out that my obgyn was going out of town for 1 week! I was so sad and cried on my way back home thinking about how I'll end up having a c-section this time around as well.

Three days later, on Sunday, I had period like cramping for about 6 to 7 hours. I was just praying not to go into labour before Friday, that's the day my doctor was coming back. On Monday morning, from 8AM, I started having contractions. I timed them, they were 8 to 10 minutes apart and around 30 seconds long. This went on for about 6 hours. After that contractions were 20 minutes apart, so I was pretty sure that it wasn't the real thing. I was having a hard time feeding and taking care of my toddler. After 7pm, they were about 10 mintues apart and I had to stop doing what I was doing when I was having a contraction, but still the intervals were very random. I had a bath, cooked for the next day, and went to bed around 1am. I slept for about an hour, but couldn't sleep after that, as the contractions really intensified. I had this excruciating pain starting at my lower back, ending at my lower abdomen. I tried walking for a while, sitting on a birthing ball, but nothing helped. I felt like I need to pee, but everytime I tried peeing, the contractions got worse. At 3:30am, I started crying because of the pain, thinking about how I can't even handle the false pain and how nothing went according to my plan. At this point, my husband asked me to go the hospital and we got ready. Going out of the door I was so disappointed at myself, and I was thinking the hospital staff are going to do the csection on me for going too early. Anyway, so we reach the hospital at around 4am. I told them that I want to try for VBAC, and they said ok! I was so surprised! Then they checked my cervix and I was 9cm dilated!! They took me to the labour room at around 5AM, at around 6:15AM, I was fully dilated. I couldn't even wait for the doctor, I just started pushing while the doctor was getting ready. After 6 to 7 contractions and 30 minutes of pushing, my second son was born, weighing 8lbs 2oz and 22.5 inches long! Recovery was so much better that the c-section recovery! Can't thank the Almighty enough, His plan was way better than mine!

I wasn't going to share my birth story unless I had my VBAC! Thank you if you've read this long!
