Very confused...

So AF was supposed to start 3 days ago. (My hubby and I have been trying for baby #2) I started spotting light pink, so naturally I put in a tampon assuming that we’d have to wait til next month. Well since Sunday I’ve only seen pink/red maybe 3 time and all small amounts. I took a pregnancy test last night thinking maybe I was and just didn’t know it, but it was negative. Now I am even more confused. Any ideas?
