Vaginal or abdominal ultrasound?

This is my second pregnancy and I’ve never had, or heard of anyone having a vaginal ultrasound. I’m wondering how common it is and if it’s just something they only do in certain countries or something

The midwife at my office said they only use vaginal in early pregnancy because they see the baby better.

I'm in the US, and I've had 2 vaginal ultrasounds. The first was requested by my doctor because she wanted to evaluate my ovaries and uterus due to period irregularities. The second one came not even two months later because I got pregnant pretty quickly after that. ❤

I’ve had a few vaginal scans at one place I’ve gone but at my scan at a different hospital most recently they only did abdominal and I was 7 weeks. Previously I probably would have had vaginal. I think they will sometimes do it to get a better look or a different angle. My placenta was also on the front with my daughter so it might have made it hard to see her.

They do vaginal in early pregnancy. If it’s your first pregnancy you might not have an ultrasound til 8-12 weeks and if they get a good picture with a regular tummy ultrasound they don’t need to do vaginal. I got a vaginal ultrasound at 4 weeks pregnant because of my previous miscarriages. I’ve had one every week since I’m 8 weeks now.

I’ve always had abdominal. I have had three pregnancies and am on my fourth at have had three of those ultrasounds at 9 weeks and one at 6 weeks all abdominal. It just depends on the doctor.

my first pregnancy i never had it just the stomach one but this pregnancy ive had vaginal 4 times already im about 10 weeks have another appt tommorow and dont know what they will do on that one

No I haven’t, but I wanted one at 8 weeks ! It shows the baby so much better.

Vaginal is done in really early pregnancy I had one at 5+4 they try abdominal first but if it's still too small to get a good look at everything they do vaginal to get a closer and different look

I'm in Canada and have had a few, one to check my Mirena placement and one in the ER during my miscarriage. I had an abdominal ultrasound at 9 weeks with this pregnancy thankfully I hate the internal ones..
