What are your experiences with and or opinions on welfare?

I know I may get some heat for this, but I believe in drug testing for those who receive assistance. There are people who need it, they should have the help. There are people who would rather get high than buy food- that's not ok. If they have a drug problem, they should be seeking assistance for that before anything else.

I think it is a very helpful tool, if used properly and temporary  to help assist you till you get to a point where you no longer need it. It's using it as a source of income that drives me nuts. To me it should be a last resort after you expanded all other options. I work in the medical field and have seen how so many take advantage of it

I don't think people should be actively ttc while on welfare or Medicaid. They should be working for a better life.

When I was doing charity work in Memphis I was told that young girls would get pregnant for WIC because it was their meal ticket. I met a pregnant 13 year old. I cried a lot that day.

Needs better regulation. To me it seems like so many people are scamming the system. I see so many people throwing big parties literally every weekend with their assistance but then don't have food for their 8 kids. So many people on Facebook posting statues like "is anyone selling their food stamps". But then I see people trying really hard and struggling that can't even get it. But people I know getting it going out to eat at benihanas , Ruth's Chris, Going on trips to Miami or Vegas. It's sad.

I hate these questions only because I feel like people are judged so harshly. When my parents were getting divorced my dad realized his sister had stolen a ton of money from their work account. He had nothing and couldn't pay child support. So he lost his wife, he lost his business, and couldn't afford child support. My mom had to go on welfare (food stamps). We were on it a few years. When my dad got back on his feet he paid child support.

I  feel like food stamps should be more like WIC.  There should be a list of "approved" items that you can get.  I have worked in a pharmacy for 18 years and have seen some interesting  things! Like the lady who ordered a huge wedding cake from the bakery to be picked up with food stamps.....

I know way too many people who abuse it, I know way too many that are fully capable to work they just refuse to they'd rather have free money, everyone I know personally who is on welfare are also druggies. I think they should drug test people at random, that's how I feel. Yes, I understand there are people who actually need it honestly I think there needs to be a time limit. 6 months to 1 year (at most) that is enough time for someone to better there situation.
It's sad, people who just abuse the system and don't try to better their life get handouts and then theres people who have jobs work their asses off and really do need the help and get nothing.

I see nothing wrong with it if you really need it. Thats what it's there for. I really hate when people are judgemental and think their above it and dont need help. We all need a little help sometime so im all for it i see nothing wrong with it.
