Daycare? 👶🏼

So I will be 13 weeks on Friday, and I am wondering when did you start looking for daycare? I for sure will be taking 8 weeks off once baby comes, but after that daycare is our only option. I don’t want to start looking super early, but I also don’t want to be scrambling to find a good place because I know placement for newborns is harder to find.  Any tips or suggestions?

Let me tell you, start ASAP. I work in a daycare and our infant spots are already out into MAY OF 2020. And we have a waiting list. Start now.

I already have daycare booked. They won’t have an opening until May 2020 so I’d get on a list pretty quick! My first kid didn’t get in until 6 months old as well! Thank god my parents live here and we’re able to watch her when I went back to work.

If you live in a bigger city, I would look now. Spots in good daycares are very competitive and you could be on the list a one year or so out. Not trying to scare you but looking early is less stressful I think... And if your options get limited you can also look into in-home daycares, nannies, nanny shares, or au pairs. Good luck!!

We're already on a waiting list for next February so I would start looking. We waited until 20+ weeks with my son and really struggled to find one with an opening and ended up pushing back when I would go back to work so we could get in to the one we really liked.

I live in a big city and already have paid for baby’s spot come the new year. But we are already in the daycare with my daughter. Our first go around I started looking when I was about 16 weeks? Some places had waiting lists, some didn’t.

My husband and I live in a smaller town so our choices are limited. We had to put our baby on the wait list already to hopefully have a spot after maternity leave! Never to early to look.

I wouldn’t worry about looking to early. It’s better than scrambling at the end and having to settle with something you don’t like. If you start (soon) you will have plenty of time to find the right one and get put on a list if demand for daycare is high in your area. :) good luck!

I’m sure it depends on the area, but I’d suggest going ahead and starting this early.  Sometimes the rooms for newborns are hard to get into or have wait lists (because of the small teacher to child ratio for that age).  Especially if you find a center you have your heart set on attending.  It never hurts to start planning on where your baby will be a lot of the time!
