Do you think people receiving government assistance (food stamps, etc) should be required to do community service?

....do you want these people spending 8 hours a day looking for employment so they can get OFF welfare, or do you want them picking up soda cans off the side of the freeway and staying on welfare indefinitely? Priorities.

To those wanting mandatory drug testing: in the states that currently have this as a policy, they're wasting money and not really catching anyone abusing the system. Mandatory case management with requirements for community service, volunteer work, job training, etc. are much more effective and a better use of money/resources.

There are people on govt assistance who literally cannot work. Why make a disabled person do community service when they can barely leave their house? It's a great idea, but it would be too hard to enforce.

I have to say, I think that people who don't (and never will have to) use gov't assistance spend way too much time criticizing and discussing its issues and the people who need it. I see a lot posted about it on social media from people who don't even understand it or the people it helps and I find it ridiculous.

We had to get food stamps after leaving our absuive home. My mother worked quite a few odd jobs. Her picking up cans on the side of the road would have made the process of getting on our feet much longer.

Personally I don't think volunteers for a few hours a week is too much to ask of some recieving free money that we work hard for.....

I usually see "DRUG TEST THEM!", but I think this makes a lot of sense.

Lots of people with full time employment still make time for charity work. Not much different if someone who works full time does some community work to earn govt assistance?
