Healthy dog killed to be buried with owner

I just read on the news that a healthy dog was euthanized so it could be buried with it’s dead owner in accordance with its owner’s wishes.

This happened in Virgina. The dog was originally taken to a shelter and cared for after it’s owners death. Staff there battled to save the dog but they were overruled, the dog was removed from their care, put to sleep and put in the owner’s casket.

Frankly I find this complete abhorrent and can’t believe that the family, law enforcement (or whoever enforced this), the vet and the funeral home actually allowed this to happen!

How in this day and age can this be allowed to happen and how on earth does anyone think that the wishes of a dead person are more important than the life of this little dog! 😢
