How does everyone buy a house?

Not sure if this is the right group but if need to be moved then sure! 
Anyways... my husband & I have been interested in buying a house. We currently live in CT which is wicked expensive! However we have called different banks & asked about financing and it seems absolutely impossible to buy a house!! 
Like how do you guys do it? 3.5% down or escrow accounts or 203k loans or building.. like I need advice how can we make it happen for ourselves?
Update: maybe I should of provided more context.. credit wise we are good & we are also first time homebuyers however we don’t have much money saved. We rent & pay $1695 which is wicked expensive. Paying rent, 2 car notes, preparing for our baby, household bills, groceries etc. it makes it nearly impossible to save. I thought being a first time homebuyer we can qualify for 100% financing but you still need to have an escrow account which doesn’t make much sense to me!

We lived with my in laws for two years. We scrimpped and saved every penny and at the end we were able to build our own home. It was a sacrifice for sure, but well worth it in the end otherwise it never would have been possible for us.

We rented an apartment for almost 3 years and saved up money during that time to put a down payment on a house. We finally bought a house right when our local economy was picking up more because we knew it'd be stupid expensive and a waste to rent any longer. We didn't get a forever home, we chose to get a starter home instead because it was more affordable for us and we were fine with not getting every single thing on our wishlist. Anyway, we put a down payment and got a mortgage loan for the rest. Our mortgage for a 3 bed 2 bath on an acre is now cheaper than what we were paying for our old 1 bed 1 bath apartment, so in the end it was cheaper for us to buy a house than it was to rent, even if the upfront cost was expensive

We bought through USDA Rural development first home buyers no down payment. We still had to pay for inspections and some of closing costs but not very much probably about 1500 to 2000 total.

We used a first time homebuyers program. We still had to have about $1500 for escrow and any inspection and appraisal costs. Check your local counties and see if any have any first time home buyer programs. We were able to buy after the recession so we got lucky with low home costs and the programs available to us 😁👍😎

We were able to finally put a deposit down on a house when my hubby sold his stock from a startup he worked for. We also had to borrow about 10k from my parents for the rest of it, which we have paid off now. We live in one of the most expensive areas and got in right before houses got insanely expensive! Bought our house for $670k, it’s worth over a mil now. (Oh and it’s only 1400sq ft 🙄)

I just bought a house so let me clarify. You’ll need a down payment. I suppose you don’t have to but you get a lower interest rate if you do and obviously less to pay off later. The escrow account is literally an account that accumulates and it pays your mortgage, taxes, and home insurance. 
Shop for rates! Rates are down almost 1% since the beginning of the year.  Also remember that you will have to have some cash for closing (depends on a lot of things).
