Do you allow your kids to watch tv?

Question

I’m watching a vlogger on YouTube and she explained that she doesn’t let her toddler watch tv. And they don’t have a tv in the house. She doesn’t want her kids to grow up on tv. What do you think about this? I’m kinda half and half. Half of me understands with not having a tv because electronics are so over the top these days. But,I feel like the other half of me thinks a kid needs some kind of entertainment. Cartoons. Holiday movies. Etc. What are y’all a thoughts?

2 friends of mine each grew up without TVs. They did have VCRs (back in the day haha) that their families watched movies on together. That way the parents could more closely monitor what was being watched and how often.

I find it ironic that she makes videos for a living but doesn’t let her kids watch tv.
Like there a huge difference sitting in front of a tv and sitting in front of an iPad 🙄

My children both have their own TVs mounted to their walls. BUT their remotes are velcroed to the back on the TV, so they must ask before it’s turned on. They both also have tablets, and both have their own Nintendo switch. Both of which have parental locks on them. The switch is only on for a two hour time frame through the week, and is only accessed by passcode by me or my husband. They have the tablets, because even at 6 & 7, they both have school work that is online/app. The tablets and switch also help a lot with road trips, which we take often. 
We love watching tv with our kids. It’s a blast for us, but that’s mainly because the only real time they watch a lot of tv is when they’re sitting down with us watching it.

Usually we let our kids watch a show on the weekend. Rarely is it on during the week. We have books, colouring, playdough and toys for entertainment. They never NEED tv.

As long as tv isn’t constantly being used as a babysitter, I think it’s fine. If there’s an intentional schedule and what they’re watching is productive, it doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

We have a ton of TVs in our house but only have Netflix and don’t have the tv on a lot. My husband watches quite a bit of tv on the weekends but our kids are so busy playing outside that they don’t pay too much attention to it. I don’t mind my kids watching tv but I also don’t want them stuck in the house in front of a screen for 3+ hours a day. My older children 11 & 14 have laptops bc the sad truth is to succeed in this world they need to know how to navigate computer programs/cell phones. There is definitely a healthy balance

Everything in moderation.... like maybe after dinner before bed .... I let my daughter watch educational shows while she eats.... she’ll eat more and not want to get down... like baby signing time.... when she’s older and can have a conversation we’ll cut that out.... but for now it’s a great.....or if I’m sick and I need a break.... but to totally take it and throw it out (I personally think) that it’s a little Ridiculous....
