I feel like my rules won’t be respected under a year so I wait until closer to 2 to let them have my kids. After that I’m fine with a bit of sugar and laxed rules. My mil literally tried to give my 2 MONTH old whipped cream on her finger IN FRONT of me so that says what she does behind our backs... I am not a control freak. My kids can have special nights with their grandparents but they are not ready for sugar at 2mo. I know she’d give them pablum in their bottles to “help” them sleep better too so, yes, I feel a certain way, but have also learnt how to deal with it in my own way and without too much conflict. They hate babysitting anyways and visits have to be on their terms so my 2nd has slept over less than 5x and my 3rd has never slept over.

I don’t agree with my MIL’s parenting style and how she’s not up to date on the new safety standards so it’s hard for me to fully trust her judgement at times. I still allow her to care for my son though.

My husbands parents never take the kids 😂 his step mom has taken them to a movie one time but that's it.

My kids are allowed at my in laws only while hubby or I are there to supervise & they hate it but idgaf. Their house is disgusting (no floor only the sub floor so hardwood nails stick up, they have 3 huge basset hound nasty ass dogs that I won’t allow around the baby & they don’t clean meaning the last time they dusted was probably 2+ years ago, scrubbing toilets or the bathtub? Forget it!) so no our child is allowed at my parents though but only for a few hours at a time as my parents have a tendency to not watch what they say & rum their mouth to each other calling each other names I don’t want my child knowing

I only leave my 7 year old with my MIL for short periods of time like 2 hours at the most. My baby that's due in October won't be left alone with her (if I can help it) for a LONG while and my son will be there to make sure nothing happens. My son used to always get hurt while in her care and she wouldn't even call to tell us and when we did get there to pick him up and saw he was hurt or bruised, she would just act like its nothing. Not to mention he's allergic to peanuts and treenuts and my husband caught her about to give our son cracker jacks when he was 4 or 5. Her sister in law passed out last summer and my MIL was too "panicky " to even call 911! Smh. So yeah she gets to be nana but not alone.

Obviously I’m more comfortable with my parents watching my daughter. Not only am I familiar with their parenting style, but my dad is a pediatrician and my mom is a respiratory therapist, which is awesome for our daughter who has a myriad of asthma-related issues. 
Also my MIL has a hearing deficit, which she uses to her advantage all the time to ignore my requests pertaining to my daughter’s care. Even though I write everything down for her, she’ll ignore it and pretend she didn’t see the instructions (which I pin to the diaper bag, so there’s no way she can miss them) 🙄 Its never anything dangerous, but still annoying to be flippantly ignored.
 My husband’s parents are wonderful, for the most part, and did a fantastic job raising him and his brothers but they don’t have medical expertise and that combined with the blatant disregard for our requests always leaves me uneasy when leaving my daughter with them.
