Is 5 months too young to go to a pool?

Obviously I’ll be holding my son the entire time and sunscreen and stuff, but I’m just worried about the chlorine on his body.

I started mom and tot swim lessons with my son at 4 months, just make sure to give him a good bath after, don’t stay in too long (30 min max intervals I would suggest) and get out if he shows any signs of being cold (shivering, goosebumps)

I don’t think 5 months is too young at all. Of course, as long as you take all the proper precautions and make sure your child is safe and never let out of your sight, there should be no issues! ♥️

No- but don’t use sunscreen!!!!! They don’t recommend under 6 months. Just use shade, a hat, long sleeve swim shirt!

My son went in our pool before I was allowed to after birth. He’s always loved it. I’ve read some don’t recommend sunscreen until 6 months so we made sure to put him in a long-sleeved rash guard and hat and kept him in the shade as much as possible until then. We’d also bathe and lotion him after. Just take precautions and enjoy, momma!

I just took my son who is almost six months to a pool for the first time and he LOVED it!! I just held him as we got in so that if he freaked out I was right there. He seemed just fine so we put him in his baby float which allowed him a bit more freedom to move and kick (but my husband or I was always right there with a hand in him) and he loved it so much!! We only stayed for maybe 20-30 minutes because it was close to bedtime and then I made sure to bathe him right afterward and use lotion to help moisturize in case the chlorine was extra drying.

Sunscreen is not recommended under 6 months! I would use a hat, swim shirt, and limit baby’s time in the sun to no more than 20 minutes before a long break in the shade. 
If your baby is very close to 6 months and you’re planning to use sunscreen anyway test a small spot on the hand or leg first. Definitely don’t apply to the face under 6 months and use a natural sunscreen designed for babies.
