I’m trying to decide

My ex-friend of mine had 2 kids. She used a pack and play as a crib. Would it be better to have a pack and play as their bed, or a crib? I’ve heard a lot of people say that a crib is a waste of money. My child isn’t born yet. But I want to be prepared.
