My birth story

Autumn • My beautiful son born 5/26/19 💙🥰❤️😍

Since I turned 31 weeks pregnant I’ve been having issues with my blood pressure. My doctor actually ended up writing me out of work because of it and I had to have weekly doctor appointments with both my regular OB and my maternal fetal medicine doctor.

I went in on May 23rd for a regular check up with my MFM doctor. I was 37 weeks. They took my urine and blood pressure. Blood pressure was high and I had 3+ protein in my urine so doctor decided it was time for my son to come out! I ran out to the car to tell my husband so excited and nervous and we drove across the street to the birth center.

At 5pm they put in cervidil. They took it out 5am the next morning. They checked out how dilated I was and I was only 1cm unfortunately. So at 8:30 they gave me cytotec (I think it’s called?) and they put a balloon foley in my cervix (which hurt like hell because they couldn’t get it in my cervix). An hour later I’m having mild contractions lasting 3 mins apart but aren’t any stronger than period cramps. They check me around 4pm the balloon foley comes out and I’m 4cm. They break my water and decide to start me on pitocin. The contractions start to pick up at this point. A few hours later I’m in so much pain I’m crying and begging for the epidural. The epidural didn’t really hurt at all just felt like a bee sting and then a lot of pressure in my spine. I got to relax a little bit but couldn’t sleep because I could still feel some of the contractions (though they weren’t that painful) around 11:30 pm Saturday the 25th they check me again and guess what I’m at 10cm!

Still not time to push yet though. The midwife wanted him to work his way down the birth canal a little bit more before having me push since that can prolong the pushing. She said call me when it feels like you have to poop/pee and when you feel burning. I’m sitting there in a lot of pain really uncomfortable while he’s working his way down. 12;30 rolls around and I just can’t bare it anymore. My body is starting to push him out and I can feel that he’s dropped a lot so I call the midwife and she agrees it’s time to push! Idk how many pushes I did but it was a lot since I kept getting out of breath. But my son Ted Alan was born at 1:13am May 26th. 20 inches long weighing in at 6lb 9.4oz!

He is the love of my life 💙💙
