If a doctor tells you your cervix is softening and shortening can it go back to normal?

Im 35w5d pregnant, doctor seen me at 35w2d pregnant and said my cervix is softening and shortening, is it possible to go back to normal? Or does it stay that way and continue?

I believe a shortening and softening of the cervix is part of the very, very early stages of labor. This late in pregnancy it should not go back. That’s not to say that labor is impending; many women’s cervixes start to prepare for labor by shortening, softening, effacing, and dilating weeks before they actually go into full blown labor. I mean I personally don’t THINK it can go back because you’re so late in your pregnancy. I’m not a medical doctor or anything but I do believe that when you’re pregnant once the cervix starts shorten there’s no “going back” until after you have baby. You’re two weeks from having a full term baby so for you that’s kind of a good thing
