Super gassy baby

My baby girl is 5 days old and is extremely gassy. She pushes off my boob when breastfeeding to be able to fart which is making for a bad latch. She has also started with hiccups that come right around feeding time which makes breastfeeding even more difficult. I’m a first time mom so this may be normal but if not what’s some advice I can do to make her more comfortable.

My baby is the same age, I just saw his pediatrician and she recommended sitting him up after feedings for 20 min to digest all the way (hard during night feedings I know) but has helped with the hiccups.. as far as gas goes she said our babies guts are still getting use to things besides amniotic fluid. She said it’s fine just do tummy massages, if they are grunting do bicycle legs, and those simethicone drops - I think mylicone or something like that - sorry- has helped us- they are gas drops... hope that helps... we are having the same struggle

Thank you so much for the advice. I’ll definitely be giving it a try today

I was eating lots of fruit which was making my baby gassy. I had to switch from my strawberries and raspberries to blueberries, bananas and apples. Tangy fruits seem to cause gas. But if you google things that moms eat that cause gas in babies through breast milk, there are lots of things it could be, and you’ll probably have a better idea about what in your diet might be causing trouble.

My baby is really gassy too. Make sure to burp really well every time they eat. Mine likes to comfort nurse when his belly hurts and ends up gulping down more air. He usually has 2-3 manly belch-like burps every time I burp him, but it helps cut down on the gas.If you’re nursing, I’ve heard that leafy greens can make baby gassy. I notice an increase in my baby’s gas after I eat salad or turnip greens.
