Question

Ok so I referred my sister to her lawyer quite some time ago a little over 2 years ago I believe they have been working on her case. On Saturday June 1st he came into where I work and asked me to email him said he needed to talk to me about her case so he handed me his email and left. I emailed him late yesterday and this morning this is what I woke up to. Is this normal out of a lawyer? (Sorry wanted to black out the names)

Lawyers do this al time. I nanny for two lawyers and they’re always taking clients to games, dinners or meeting for golf trips. I say live it up and take him up in his offer🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t think it’s weird. Realtors typically gift for referrals too. It’s kind of weird they just showed up at your place of work to give you their email but otherwise completely normal.

If he said cash or a weekend trip with him then I'd say that's fucking weird... But he didn't.
He also made it weird by saying cash or a trip.. like it's a gift.. not a prize on agame show. 
If her case was for a parking ticket and he messaged you 2 years out that'd be weird..
 But if it was a long 2 year case then I can understand it... I guess.

I personally think it’s ok, I know a few people who have gotten money or a trip from the lawyer they referred someone too. It may seem weird if you have never heard of this or seen it happen before a lot of people don’t realize that lawyers give gifts. As for the comments telling you to get over yourself he’s not being a creep. I don’t see in the post above where you called him a creep or thought he was being creepy just that the gesture seemed weird to you. So don’t let those bother you. However you should do what feels right to you. If you want to take a gift then do it if not send him an email back saying it’s not necessary. You do you!

It doesn’t seem weird. Lawyers, especially corporate lawyers like to show appreciation for your custom or referrals. Especially as they earn quite a lot, and the case may or may not have boosted their reputation.

I think it's fine. I've worked in both the medical and legal fields. There are a lot of ethic regulations surrounding kickbacks and giving of gifts in the medical field, not so much the legal field. Lawyers have a little more leeway to develop friendly relationshipships through various means, including giving gifts 
Long story short he isn't doing anything unethical, just showing a token of appreciation for a referral that sounds like it ended up being profitable for him.

This isn’t weird at all. I’m surprised you would feel that way. The reason he’s offering cash or a trip is to avoid any tax implications. And he mentions your husband...don’t think he’s trying to be a creep even the slightest...
