Early pregnancy and brushing teeth?

I just found out I am pregnant last week and brushing my teeth is a nightmare. 
Well I can brush my actual teeth perfectly fine but soon as I brush my tongue it makes me gag so badly!!! Why is that? Why does just brushing my tongue trigger that??

When i was pregnant i would gag constantly it was horrible it lasted until almost into my 3rd trimester.

My gag reflex has been bad since I got pregnant too, and it's because your toothbrush gets near your uvula. Try breathing out your nose while brushing your tongue or get a tongue scraper.
