Asher is Here 😍😍

Riven

I had signs of preterm labor starting at 32 weeks. I fully lost my mucous plug as well as bloody show a few days shy of 33 weeks and tested positive for fetal fibronectin. A few days later on the 6th at about 3pm my water broke and I headed to the hospital. Because I was turning 34 weeks the 7th they decided to induce me the morning of the 7th at 7:30 if I didn’t start labor on my own before them. Baby had other plans. My contractions started at 5am and babies heart rate went from strong and steady to dropping with every contraction. They put me on fluids in hopes to replenish some of the amniotic fluid to give him some cushion but that did nothing to help so they had me go on hands and knees which also wasn’t helping his heart rate stay steady. Around 6:40 the nurse came in and tried rubbing the top of his head with her fingers to try to stimulate him a bit but he didn’t respond at all to the stimulation so I started being prepped for an emergency csection. Nurses were surprised at how willing I was to accept that I needed a csection and powered through the contractions trying to help them get me prepped as fast as possible. We got into the OR around 7:20am. They administered the spinal and I immediately threw up after. They started the surgery around 7:30 and he arrived at 7:59am. I tried to stay calm waiting to here him cry and after what seemed like too long he started crying and I felt so relieved. He’s 4lbs 11oz and my grandma was able to get a quick picture before they rushed him off to the nicu. He looks just like his daddy. I got sewn back up and brought to an interim room to watch my blood pressure before they brought me to my postpartum room. After my spinal wore off and I had feeling back I asked my nurse every time she came in when I could go visit my son. She was shocked by how little pain I was in. When she finally let me go visit him in the wheelchair at 8:30pm I needed no help getting it of bed and into a standing position. I also walked myself to the wheelchair and sat myself down into it. My nurses were shocked how fast I was up and mobile. They tried taking him off his cpap the next day but he only lasted about 35 minutes before he got too tired and forgot to breathe so he was placed back on. I got to hold him twice on the 8th once in the morning and once in the evening when we did skin to skin. Meanwhile I was pumping for him every two hours and exceeded all my nurses and the lactation consultants expectations. First few pump sessions I averaged 1.5mL. Then jumped to 3 then 9 then 15 and now averaging 60mL per pump session. I’ve exceeded their current goal for today by 40mL each pump session. His cpap was taken off at 8:15 am on the 9th and he’s been off of it since with only a few short episodes of forgetting to breathe. I was able to do skin to skin again and he got to try eating around 9:30pm on the 9th. He didn’t eat very much but has a very stron suck reflex and his breathing and heart rate stayed steady while he ate which his nurses said is great. I am so proud of him and how strong he is and so happy with how fast my body is bouncing back and healing so I can be mobile. I couldn’t pump with my first son but I am so proud of how well I’m doing this time. I look forward to my visits with Asher every day and can’t wait to take him home where his big brother will get to meet him for the first time.
