Water for our babies?

At what age did you start giving your little one water and how much how many times a day?

My pediatrician said 2oz with each meal. Starting at 6 months. It can also help with the constipation that may come from starting solids. The general rule of thumb is 4-6 oz until a year old just so it isn’t replacing formula/breastmilk intake.

We started giving water when we started solids at 6 months. Our pediatrician said a good rule of thumb is to give however many ounces of water equal to however many months old your baby is, so at 6 months you can give around 6oz a day. We only offered water when our son was eating, so he didn’t drink very much, but it still helped with constipation. When my son was crawling and more active, around 10 months, we started letting him have access to a sippy cup with water in his playroom at all times so he could drink freely.

My doctor said no more than 2 Oz a day starting at 9 months until a year. You want them to still ingest just as much formula or milk up until they are a year old and having too much water can fill their belly which means they begin to lack the nutrients from their milk.

If you’re breastfeeding they don’t ever need water. Breastmilk automatically adjusts for the warm weather and becomes more quenching

Around 4 months I would give babies sips of water, but not like a bottle. Just a couple sips. I lived in Texas and it was dang hot, those babies got thirsty just like anybody else🤷 but I think the recommendation is to not give kids water just to drink until a year? 🤔 Can't remember for sure.
