Is she really a friend?
Hey all ☺️
For the purpose of the post I am going to refer to my friend as ‘Jane’, as I do not want her real name to publicised.
So lately I’ve reconnected back with an old friend of mine who I’ve known for a few years now. Since knowing her, we’ve definitely had our ups and downs, but, some would say they’re either harmful or toxic.
Throughout High School, Jane and I connected and bonded really well - we could both connect deeply on both physical and mental levels. Somewhere along the line (mainly due to an ex of mine) we lost contact and for t speak to each other for about 2 years. However, just recently we have reconnected.
Since talking to her, we’ve definitely had some major fights where she would pull the ‘suicide card’ out and use it against me, however, however her reason for wanting to commit such acts are valid and true. I’ve come to realise that Jane has serious mental issues and needs to seek professional help. With the loss of her Dad at such a young age, the accident has only just impacted her severely (quite recently too) due to maturity and the loss of relationships she had endured (including ours).
Anyways, just recently I have been accepted into a Gap Year program to Canada for 2 years. I mentioned this to Jane but she completely blew up and said all these nasty and cruel things to me. The bottom line is, she doesn’t want me going UNLESS she is with me. There has been many more situations like this that I have had to deal with in the last few months of our newly rekindled relationship, but I can’t keep up with these outbursts and her attitude towards me.
Don’t get me wrong, when we’re not fighting, our friendship is the best - I couldn’t of asked to spend with someone other than her. But it’s her attitude and behaviour towards me that gets it every time. I have tried talking with her, but Jane is very sensitive when we bring up these types of subjects, and it ends in an argument, or she accepts but continues to do the same mistakes as she was a few weeks later.
What should I do?? Is she a ‘real’ friend like she claims she is?
