Cervix check?

Question

Okay so I got a cervix check at 35w4d and my doctor said he doesn't usually do a lot of checks unless he needs to or I want one. 
But at my next appointment I'll be 38w4d and wanted to know if I should be getting another check to see if I've dilated or if he will probably wait until 40w.

I didn't get checked till I was in labour it's self I was high risk etc all thru and he came early at 36 weeks risk of infection can be greater than doing the checks

I don't plan on having one unless I'm feeling like It's changed. I fully expect to go past my due date and I don't want to waste my time or attention on that. It's a very poor indicator of when you'll actually go into labor or how much longer you'll be in labor. You could be 4 cm the whole last month and still have to be induced around 42 wks. Or you could go into labor abd still be in labor 20 hrs later. ORRRR. You could be at a 0 and go into labor any minute and have a 5 hr labor.

My Dr asked me if I wanted one, I said Yes. I should have said no. It was disappointing to hear there was no change.
