Crazy baby around food

My 8 month old has a tendency to start shoveling fists full of food in his mouth but also kind of scream crying on and off. He starts off fine, picking up food and eating in a pleasant manner. But then it turns into this crazy state. It seems like he doesn't want anymore, but then he keeps eating. I can't tell if he's full, if he doesn't like, if his mouth hurts, if he wants more etc. I'm trying to follow his cues, but I'm also wanting to make sure he's eating enough while also not forcing food. I'm so confused by his behavior. Anyone have tips or in a similar situation?
