When you and your husband fight does he call you names ?  Does he grab you aggressively?  If not what happens when you fight ?  And how do you resolve the fight ?  Do you scream or talk ?  Does he talk down to you and make you feel horrible and if so does he apologize afterwards ?

When my husband and I argue we separate for a few hours to calm down. Whether it go for a walk and he stays home or I go grocery shopping and he goes running. Once we are both calm we sit down and both get chances to talk and explain our point of view. After that we come up with a compromise. No yelling, no hands on aggression, no belittling each other and no name calling. We have respect for each other and that is why we opt for the separation time to cooks down so nothing hurtful is said due to emotions.

We talk like adults . If he’s grabbing you hard and calling you names and everything you listed on here he sounds abusive . That’s not how a marriage works . Yes I have got loud when we have a disagreement but that was when we were younger and immature , plus we have kids and they don’t need to witness that . So we just talk it out .

When my husband and I have a disagreement, we sometimes talk over each other. But, when we both notice we are escalating, we take a little time to cool off, and come back to it. We always use “I feel” statements rather than “You did” or whatever. We always resolve our problems same day, always end it in a hug, kiss, and apology for whatever action it was that upset the other person. We’ve never name called or laid hands on each other. We respect each other too much to even think of being mentally or physically abusive.
