Would you raise your kids as vegan?
I’m not planning on having kids for a while but I’m genuinely curious what you would do. I was raised vegetarian and even though I got teased a lot as a kid about it and grew up having to learn how to defend my values and diet, I’m so glad my parents made that choice for me. I’ve always been healthy and I think it was a good lesson on teaching me to stand up for myself and my beliefs. I later decided to become vegan in my early twenties, and it was a choice that I’m proud of. I think learning how to deal with being different early on prepped me for an easier transition to an even more uncommon diet.
Ideally my kids would be vegan, but I don’t want them to grow up feeling like outcasts or burdens. However, if they grow up believing they’re doing the right thing, maybe being vegan would give them the confidence to stand up for their beliefs? I don’t know... also I just believe it is a healthy diet if you make sure you’re getting your vitamins/protein. For anyone who is going to argue that meat eating is healthier for kids, I think down the road all that saturated fat and cholesterol is not actually doing your kids more of a favor compared to raising them on a plant based vegan diet. But I understand that this is a hotly contested issue, so if that’s your opinion then that’s your opinion.
