Can you do a vaginal birth after having a C-section?

I had my son in oct. 2014. He was an emergency C-section so when I had my daughter in April 2016 the doctor told me I had to do a C-section because they were so close together. Hubby and I are thinking about having another and I wanted to know if I would automatically have to have a C-section again or if i could try vaginal since it's been 3 years since my last.

My youngest son was born via emergency c section and I am pregnant now almost 20 wks.. I was concerned and asked my dr about having another c section because I seriously do not want another and my dr told me since I have only had 1 c section I am ok to give birth vaginally. She told me usually it's when a woman has had 2 or more  c section that they require you to continue to give birth that way because you could actually tear and burst your stomach open to the point where yourself will bleed out and possibly your baby could die.

It depends on your individual situation/health. If you had no complications and you waited the amount of time between pregnancies that they recommended then it’s possible. Pregnancies too close together make a VBAC more risky and possibly dangerous. Your doctor would know best.

Also I’m not sure if you already had two CS if they would allow you to have a VBAC. I have been doing some research because I am trying to decide what to do and I read after having two they may not let you have a VBAC after having two CS but I guess again, it depends on your health and what your doctor recommends.
