Anyone else think announcing baby’s name before birth is weird?

Maybe it’s just me, but it’s not something that is commonly done is Australia so I find it odd

No not weird. During our gender reveal we are using the names instead of just boy or girl.

Not weird at all here. Most people ask, actually! You, of course, still have the right to keep the name to yourself until baby is born over here. Just pretty common to share.

I think it's more strange when people reference a unborn child as "it" during their whole pregnancy. Using the name during conversations would be less strange to me. Although I can see people getting confused on who they are talking about when they say the name in a conversation, since the child isn't born yet.

I think it's so strange!!  A friend told me the gender and name before birth - there was nothing to be that excited about when baby came! 
But I'm from Aus :)

I’ve never understood it either. I’d need to see my baby before naming it and even if I had named my baby with my partner I’d like it  to remain a surprise for others! Feels a little more special that way.

I couldn’t commit to a name before seeing my son, had to make sure he suited it 😁

It’s definitely “to each his own” for me. I won’t be sharing our name choices (assuming we ever get that far!) but I’ve known tons of people who refer to the baby by their name in utero, too. 🤷🏼‍♀️

we picked our names before even getting pregnant so as soon as we find out the gender we will be using the name.... i hate calling my baby “it”

Hubby and I love referring to our daughter by her name. We did the same with our first.
