Hey everyone!

So I had my egg retrieval yesterday. My RE was expecting around 15 eggs based on my last US so I mentally prepared myself and my husband and I decided we would be happy with 10.

Everything happened so fast! Got to the clinic and changed into a Johnny immediately. We spoke with a nurse who put in an IV and discussed medical history stuff with me. Met my RE who performed the procedure and some of the nurses who would be in the room. The anesthesiologist also came by and asked some questions about if i had ever had anesthesia before, etc. Finally, I kissed my husband and the nurse escorted me to the bathroom to pee and afterward I walked into the OR.

I went up on the bed which was surprisingly comfortable! They put my legs in these large whole leg stirrups. The RE put in the speculum and started cleaning my cervix. The anesthesiologist started to give me doxycycline and then fentanyl and I started feeling good! They talked to me for a little and then put in the propofol. I don’t even remember passing out. It was some good stuff and I felt the most restful I have in a long time!

I woke up in the recovery area and remember feeling so tired and wanted to keep sleeping, but I allowed myself to wake. A nurse came in and handed me a piece of paper with the egg count. 21! My lucky number! Eventually the RE came in and told me the procedure went well and he was happy with the number. I also met with the embryologist and talked about what would happen next. Basically they will call the next day to let me know how many eggs were mature and fertilized (we did ICSI). I ate a little snack and drank some water. Then we headed home.

I ended up feeling great that day (still feeling the drugs a little bit) and got my nails done and did some shopping. I felt a little sore last night so I used a heating pad and some Tylenol. It wasn’t too bad, kind of like menstrual cramps but maybe a little worse.

Today I am feeling much better. Just got the call that out of the 21 eggs they retrieved 20 were mature and 18 fertilized! I am over the moon 🌝

The clinic doesn’t give any further updates until day 7 so we are patiently waiting until next Tuesday to see how many were frozen and sent for PGS testing.
