Dentist while preggo

Anyone else's dentist tell them they need to come back every 3 months while pregnant? Mine told me that I need to come back every 3 months while pregnant bc "the health of my mouth determines the health of the baby".

I wouldn't mind going in 3 months, if the hygenist didn't absolutely murder my gums, causing me to not be able to eat for the entire day because it hurt to chew/do anything really. I read that pregnancy hormones cause your gums to be more sensitive and bleed more, so your dentist should be gentle while pregnant. Not the case...at all.
