Doula anyone?

Are any of you February mamas looking into hiring a doula or have in the past? Would love to hear your insight!

I had one for my first baby. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Not only was she there for me during labor, but she also met with me a handful of times during pregnancy and gave me so much useful information and made me feel at ease about delivering as a FTM.
I wanted an unmedicated hospital birth, and I knew I wanted someone with a holistic view of birth to support me. My husband and I agreed that we wanted him as emotional support, but for my Doula to be able to knowledgeably assist with how to ease the discomfort. My husband had NO IDEA what to do 🤪 I will say she did direct him and helping me too 👌🏻
Another thing I loved about her is that she knew her role, wasn’t pushy, and respected the medical staff. She had assisted so many women at the hospital i delivered at that my Dr. even knew her and was chatting about their kids together 😂 A lot of people will say that they want someone to advocate for them, but you DONT want that!! It’s not her place to speak for you. What she should do is equip you with the tools, knowledge, space, and environment for you and your partner to make the best decisions for yourselves 👌🏻
Those are just some of my thoughts and opinions 😊 hope that helps! I’ll add that I only labored naturally for 4 hours before getting an epidural. My doula was super kind and supportive through it and reaffirmed it was a good choice to go medicated, then she helped me flip my baby into proper position before pushing (she was sunny side up throughout labor), and was super helpful while I was pushing 👌🏻 Now with my second, i don’t feel I need one this time around because i plan on getting an epidural 😜 but definitely recommend them for first time moms!!!

absolutely. I’m planning on having my 2nd natural / unmedicated birth and having a doula the first time helped make the whole experience positive!
