Career
I just need to vent a little. I get so tired of when I say I want to be in the healthcare career field I immediately get the response “oh do you want to be a nurse or a PA?” and it’s always from men. While being a nurse or PA is a very honorable job that requires a lot of work, it’s not what I want to do. When I respond “no I want to be a doctor” I get “oh so a pediatrician?” Like nooooo just because I’m a female that wants to be a doctor doesn’t mean I want to work with the tiny people. Men have such a hard time wrapping their heads around women doing anything else. When I say I want to be a surgeon, they always frown their faces and immediately start trying to deter me saying how hard it is, I should try something easier, why not be a pediatrician or nurse instead like being a surgeon isn’t just a man’s job. They go on about the debt, the male majority, the competition, the hours, and my all time favorite “don’t you want to have kids or a family?”. As if that should be my main priority in life. I’d much rather help save lives and female healthcare workers can be wonderful mothers and still be great at their job. It’s called multitasking and time management. If a man can do it, so can we. It irritates me to no end and honestly I find it insulting to all women. While any profession in healthcare is equally important, there aren’t women roles and the hard things are not meant for just men anymore. It’s 2019 and still women are seen as the inferior sex in healthcare. Honestly I can’t wait for the day I reach my goal so people stop doubting me.
