My Clara is recovering well 💜

Me

It's been 4 days since she was born, 3 since she was admitted to the NICU and it feels like it's been a month. When they took her to the NICU early Thursday morning her glucose level was low and her breathing too fast and shallow. They did an xray and found that her left lung was completely obscured by SOMETHING but they didn't know what, so they did an echo and found that it wasn't a mass or any sort so it was either mucous or fluid. They started her on Chest PT to break up the fluid and immediately after the first xray they started her on a course of antibiotics (ampicillin and gentimycin). They also had to insert an NG tube which she HATED and kept trying to yank out. While they were initially doing xrays every day they weren't noticing much change, so they decided to do them every other day in order to be able to see obvious changes. They told us on Friday morning before I was discharged that they needed consent for a picc line, since her veins are so tiny and she kept blowing out her IV's, so obviously to save her being stuck so many times for the IV's, we consented. Her sugar stabilized (although it seems to be dropping again due to jaundice making her too sleepy to eat much) so they said she can now eat as much as often as she likes, and they removed the NG tube! Her latest xray came back this morning and although we haven't talked to the doctor yet, the log says theres clear evidence of pneumonia and her lungs are clear! Pneumonia was our best case scenario and we are over the moon right now. She still has to stay in the NICU to let the antibiotics run their course but I'm so happy she's recovering and hopefully will get to come home next weekend 😊 I'm so proud of my girl and so in love with her.
