Proof that stress has a mass

Innke

You've probably already heard that stress has a large impact on your bodyweight, but did you ever see a proof? This Christmas, the Christkind brought us a smart scale and the data is interesting.

Since last summer, I've gained considerable amount of weight. One of the reasons was finishing university. I've been dropping sports classes and craving unhealthy food which I don't even find tasty under normal circumstances.

I haven't weighted myself every day, but I did it fairly often. This graph shows my morning data since Christmas. You can see my gradually growing stress and the moment I let go. Unfortunately the graph doesn't show correct time lapse between records.

And this is a closeup of the last hill in the graph with corresponding life events.

After finishing my exams, I was still in a bit of stress (a large stage of my life has just ended), but eventually I started letting go of the stress and in the last month I've lost 3-4 kg without any drastic change. I didn't return to my sports classes yet. I did start eating healthier right after the uni ended, but there were absolutely no results for half a month until I've let go of the stress.

I know there are times when reducing stress is simply not possible, but if you're doing everything you can and the weight goes the wrong way, think about your mind. You're likely stressing too much about something. Maybe you're overthinking your diet and workout routine and undermining your own efforts.

Find some time for yourself. Do something you want to do, just because you want to do it. If not every day, at least every week.

Mind is the greatest wonder, it can heal you or poison you leaving you none the wiser
