Liam a nickname for William?

So my husband and I really like the boy name Liam, but my husbands middle name is William, and his dad and grandpas name are William. So we were thinking of naming baby boy William but calling him Liam. Do you think that’s acceptable? I don’t want a billy or a bill or a will. But I understand the family history of William

This sounds like me!! We are having a girl but I know if we ever have a boy his name will be William! My husbands middle name is also William and his dads name is William but goes by Bill. I don’t like Bill (I love his dad but don’t like the name) at first I wanted Liam but my husband grew to not like it. Luckily, Will really grew on me. And he wants to use Bill and I thought it would a cute thing between them and my husbands father. Basically I wouldn’t mind if his family used bill but my family and I will be using Will or William 😂 eventually he will decide what he likes as he gets older.

That was our original plan, but my sister asked to use the name Liam (10 years ago, we weren't even sure we'd have kids) and I said yes. Our baby will be William (both in tribute to our father) and we'll call him Will. Which is basically a long answer to say yes, naming him William and calling him Liam is fine.
