Anyone here considered using a sperm donors?

Question

I’m single and have been wanting to have a baby for some time now. In order to have a baby you gotta have a man and I haven’t found him and everyone I come across is a little dirty whore of man with 8 kids lol ( okay so maybe not 8 kids but could be more) they don’t take care of them so I might as be a donor and be a single mom by choice!! 
Has anyone done this or in the process of choosing a donor?? 
Anyone have kids by a donor, if so did you tell your kids they are from a donor? would you tell them when they got older

Using a donor here, too! I went through NorthWest Cryobank because they had a 25% off sale, (they seem to have one about every four months, just a heads up!) and they've been great! A good variety of donors (as most banks primarily have white donors, northwest also has a good number of black, desi, latino, and Asian donors!) And very thorough. Every time they send your samples they also include the genetic report of your donor, so you know what genetic defects are at risk. You can choose open or closed donations, where if you choose open, your child receives contact info for their donor at the age of 18, if that's important to you at all. You can see their info right on the website, you only have to pay if you want to see the baby pictures or read the entire questionnaire donors all fill out. Family history, dental, schooling and career, even what stands out about the donor to the staff! (For example, the front desk ladies liked the donor I chose bc of his shy smile and dimples) 
In the end I paid about 2000 for five vials, plus storage and shipping. 
Personally, I'll be telling my child the truth from the get go. It's not the 80s, where donor kids were lied to abt dead dads, or whatever, and it's not shameful to be a single mom like it used to be, so I don't see any need to disguise it. I'm ready to love a child, not a partner. Let simple things be simple, and don't create issues where none were growing!

I’m currently working through the known donor route. I’m a social worker and have done a lot of research. There are some great podcasts and blogs about donor-conceived children. Basically to sum it up: complete openness from the start and don’t treat it like it’s shameful. It seems to parallel the advice for adoption. I’ve heard Donor-conceived people refer to feeling “half adopted” and most advocate access to their donor and any donor siblings. For these reasons, though I can afford the clinical route, I have chosen to go the known donor route and specifically only considered donors willing to be known to the child throughout childhood— I want my future child to have access to questions/answers/identity formation from the time they are little and especially through teenage years when identity formation is crucial, so waiting til 18+ doesn’t seem like a good option for me.

I’m not single, but my husband and I have been TTC for well over a year and have had issues on issues, mainly due to his swimmers not being up to par. 
So we just did our first IUI with donor sperm 4 days ago. We used Fairfax Cryobank and I really liked their customer service, also they have a lot of donors to choose from. Good luck!!

Hello there. SMBC here as well! I used Seattle Sperm Bank as it’s closest to me, seemed to be a bit cheaper and work closely with my fertility clinic. I also liked that they have a donor of the month and the sperm vials are buy one get one free for that donor. Definitely cuts down on cost if you like the donor and can get a couple free vials! 
I JUST got my faint positive test this morning so I haven’t been able to tell a kid about how they got here but I’ve already purchased a couple of great kids books geared towards starting that conversation when they are ready. I’m also apart of an SMBC group on social media and highly recommend that connection with a group that’s been there and can advise and relate.

I used Seattle Sperm Bank. They are cheaper and have fewer men to choose from BUT the quality is MUCH superior as in high sperm counts and motility. I’ve used 3 different donors and they’ve all been great. The reason why I haven’t conceived is because my office timed the inseminations wrong with the trigger shots and so it didn’t work. My third cycle my LH surged naturally so they did the IUI the next day and it worked but I miscarried at 7 weeks. 
It has been a challenging process especially with not having a partner but I want to be a mother more than anything in the world so if you want the same this is the right move. Learn about the donor process from the bank website and consider all things before making your choice. It was the right thing for me, it’s just been a difficult road.

I am looking into donation with my spouse. Definitely tell them young in my opinion: there are children’s books about it that introduce it to them. Hiding it until they’re older will make them feel like it’s bad or that you were dishonest. Our doctor also said that if any friends or family know, the child needs to know.
There’s a podcast called “not by accident” by a single mother and documentarian who shares her journey. It’s an amazing story with great insight.

I’m using a donor this time round. My donor is a friend though who understands haven’t gone to a bank. We are doing the the same way a bank would but at home

I just did my first cycle of ICI using a donor. I used Cryobank California because they have a wide variety and are local to my location. The process was very easy and there so much help and videos out there.
