I’m going to do it!!!

Ashley

I was induced and had an epidural with my first baby. With the second, I was firmly against being induced, so I was pumped with narcotics instead. With THIS one, our third and final, my husband and I want to do a natural labour and birth! This new hospital that we are delivering in supports that, in fact they won’t even give you medication past 6 cm. I’ve been reading and watching you tube videos like crazy! Any other tips?

Read Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth! Gives you so much strength! Make sure all the doctors and nurses know not to OFFER you pain relief, and wait for you to ask for it instead.

Labor at home for as long as possible. I went in to the hospital with my last baby and I was 9cm already. I had already decided to do a natural birth but the temptation for those drugs when you are in that kind of pain is very real. When I got to the hospital I was like “Give me all the drugs!!!” But I was too far along so no drugs for me haha.

I listened to Rachel Yellin hypnobirthing tracks and meditations. I also read Ina May’s book - basically surround yourself with positive stories! I used to run track and the pain and stamina and determination in racing I applied to my birth: you can do anything for one minute. That was my mantra. I also told my huns to remind me to relax my face, which my research told me relaxing your fave helps your body AKA cervix and muscles relax too...it seemed to help since I only used gas and air for 30minutes and little dude was born very quickly! Good luck to you!! YOU CAN DO IT! ❤️

I loved all the hypnobirthing videos by The Positive Birthing Company on YouTube, and the videos from Mindful Mamas Raising Tigers (she also has a website). Books: Hypnobirthing Home Study Course Manual by Kathryn Clark, and Ina May Gaskin’s Guide to Childbirth.

I’m so excited for you!!! My first birth was non-medicated and I am planning the same with this current pregnant. The most important thing is that you educate yourself and become your own advocate. I’ll share some of the things I am doing: I’m taking prenatal yoga which helps to prepare you physically, mentally and emotionally. For my first birth I read Natural Hospital Birth, Your Best Birth, and Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth. I am reading all three again. Also the documentary The Business of Being Born is a must see. For this birth I am also hiring a birth Doula. Doulas help you and support you throughout the labor and give you tips and recommendations on what positions you should try when labor/transition gets difficult. I wish you the best. 💜💜💜

Read Ina May’s book, and I also listened to Rachel Yellin hypnobirth tracks (mp3s) so they are on my phone. Keep reading positive natural stories and I personally watched natural birth stories on youtube. Surround yourself with the mindset and it will happen! Did this for my second, he came flying out. No narcotics, just some gas&air to get me through to pushing. Good luck! ❤️
