Definition: Something you inherit from someone else after they no longer need or want it. 
Example: The clothing your older sibling wore that you have been given to wear.
The expression as I know it is “hand me downs”, but I’ve seen so many saying “hammy downs” so I’m curious what you call it!

It's hand me down, and what you're hearing it just people saying it fast and lazily, skipping syllables.  They aren't saying "Hammy down" they are saying "Han' me down" saying it fast and just skipping over the letter D in hand. Like when people say "Whatcha" when they mean "What are ya"..

If I type it I would put hand me down, but when I say it I don't really pronounce the "d" in hand and speed through the words so it's more like han-me down.

It’s a hand me down because it’s being handed down to someone who can use it or wants it.
