When did your baby start holding their head up on their own?

When does this developmental milestone usually happen?

Babies usually can hold their head up for a bit when their a few weeks old. Then at least around the 6-7 week growth spurt the head will grow and it’ll get much harder for them to keep it up like they used to. That’s why tummy times important! Most babies won’t have good control of their head and keeping it up until a few months.

This was at a week, i think. She started trying in the hospital. She doesn't do it a long time, but her stretches of time able to do it are longer. Give lots and lots of tummy time.

My one son literally held his head up and looked around the first time I held him in the NICU. 2 days after he was born at 33 weeks 3 days

My daughter is now (as of today) 7 weeks and she is able to hold her head up by herself 90% of the time. I still hold her head just incase.
