Marriage Counseling?

Question

How many of you lovely ladies seen a marriage counselor before getting married or afterwards with your SO? I'm thinking of doing it but I'm not too sure. Any opinions on it?

Premarital counseling is so important! Gets you to talk about things you would never think of! We did ours with our pastor but if you are not religious you can see a regular therapist!

We went to premarital counseling prior to marriage, and loved it! We dated for 4 years before getting engaged, so I didn't really think there was a whole lot we would learn I premarital counseling that we didn't already know about each other, but we learned quite a bit! I highly recommend it :) we've been happily married for almost 4 years now. I'm so happy we were able to resolve any issues before they even arose in marriage.

We did it before getting married and we did it two years ago when we were headed for divorce. Glad we did! We learned a lot and were able to actually mend our marriage and we are now happier and more in love than we ever have been.

I think marriage counseling is so valuable. Everyone I know who's done it has had such great experiences, it saved my in laws marriage. If I can, I definitely want to do it when we get married.

I never had marriage counseling...courthouse marriages don't require it.

Do whatever you believe though. If it's for religious reasons or just because, go through with it if you think it's right for you and your SO.

As a marriage prep instructor, I can tell it considerably decreases your risk of divorce. It doesn't even have to be a therapist, it can be a pastor or a state-offered class on a Saturday. Texas offers Together in Texas as a Saturday course and the certificate gets you your marriage license free, with no waiting period. It is so valuable.

Check your school health office or calll HR at your job they may have free sessions through employee assistance program but yeah well worth the money try to go to separate coubselors and read books five language of love and secrets of happily married wives

We did both, before and after. I was going through stressful times in my career and really unhappy about a year after getting married. I was so depressed that I couldn't feel anything for my husband and was worried I didn't love him. We went to counseling and I saw someone on my own for 6 months. I realize now that it was just my depression causing all of these feelings. I'm better now and my husband definitely notices the difference. Every marriage goes through rough patches.

I was thinking about doing premarital counseling before marriage. & I wasn't sure if it would be a good thing to do since I've never done counseling before.

My ex husband and I did it before and after getting married. Before so we'd think about things we hadn't thought about before. After because he cheated on me for a year. I found out a week after getting married and it took 6 months to get him to agree to see a counselor. Things got better, then they got way worse. We divorced. But in all of that I learned a lot of valuable things. I actually mentioned it to my now fiancé a few times. We don't really have any issues but like my last marriage counselor said, you should always aim for a better marriage. They can teach us skills and methods to avoid or handle situations and potential conflict. I think if you actually listen and apply, it can be very beneficial.
