Which hurts more?

Question

Getting a pap smear for the first time. Little nervous so wondering what is worse so I know what to expect. I've had 3 tranvag Ultrasounds which I'm mostly fine with until they are twisting them around sideways. Then it's a bit painful. So based on that, is the pap smear worse pain or is the trans worse?

One is a thinner scratchier sensation (pap) but it’s shorter timewise and one is a cylinder knob that’s lubed up but takes a bit longer. Still I prefer the US

Neither of mine hurt.... Like, no pain at all. They were both a little uncomfortable bit the pap was only about 10 seconds whereas the u/s was several minutes

I usually have cramping after a pap. Not terrible but still unpleasant.  I’ve had 3 transvaginal ultrasounds and I’d take that over a pap any day!   Way less uncomfortable.

It depends on the gentleness of your doctor I suppose. I didn’t even know they had finished my pap because I felt nothing, however my SIL told me she cried from hers. We both had ours done at 8 weeks pregnant so I don’t think pregnancy sensitivity had anything to do with her feeling pain and me feeling nothing

Honestly my pap didn't hurt at all, it almost felt like a little tickle with some pressure. It took me longer to take my pants off than it did for the actual pap smear lol

The ultrasounds are a lot gentler in my opinion. It’s slightly uncomfortable when they angle the wand far to one side, like you said, but other than that it’s just awkward. I’d rather get those any day rather than a pap. Paps are scratchy and sharp. The doctor basically sticks a metal speculum in your vagina and opens it up so they can see inside, then they take one those Christmas tree shaped things with bristles, like a toothbrush kind of, and scrape your cervix to get a sample of your tissue. Then the doctor usually sticks one and then two fingers in to feel the cervix while she pushes on your belly. It’s a lot more uncomfortable in my opinion.
