Would you find it weird that your mother in-law said she may have thought murder suicide had occurred when we all slept in late one morning (including our two year old son) like is that a weird statement to make ? She said I either thought you guys had left without me (she was staying at our house) or thought possibly murder suicide.

I’m going to say no. She was exaggerating the worry she felt when you guys didn’t respond to her at a usual time. It was over the top but I don’t think she meant anything weird by it. She was being dramatic and telling you she was worried.

I mean, is it weird or do you guys have a very volatile household? I feel like someone wouldn’t say that about a happy, healthy family household... peoples minds don’t go in that direction unless things don’t seem “well”. Unless of course she has a dark sense of humor and she thought she was being funny.

It sounds like she is very depressed and afraid of being alone. Not sure how good your relation is with her but if is good enough talk to her. Make her know that everything is fine and her family is there for her.
