after my brother passed away, I was grieving so I was sleeping in my mom's bed with her....well, A week after he passed, at exactly the same time, there was a knock on her bedroom door that woke us both up. We opened the door and no one was there. It was a pretty obvious knock, too. Like, two or three in a row, not something that could be mistaken for a knock. It's really the only time I've felt his presence or felt like he's tried to contact us. We are currently turning his room into our nursery for our baby girl so I'm wondering if he will come around more...

I remember when i was about 6 or 7 years old my room was right across from my brother & i used to share a room with my grandmother up until she had passed & around that time his grandmother passed also (same grandmother who lived with up, & his grandmother from his dads said) i woke up in the middle of the night .. My door was wide open, so was his, night light was on & i saw both of our grandmothers just standing over him watching him peacefully sleep. I couldnt stop crying or staring. The picture would not go away .. I still see it till this day, like it was yesterday!

In Asatru we worship the fantastical Gods like Thor, Eir, or Freya. But we also worship our ancestors.

For me it's tricky as I came from a devout Lutheran family. So contacting Opa Fitzgerald and asking "So, I'm thinking of switching majors from accounting to nursing, thoughts?" Or asking Uncle Patrick(relatively famous caterer in Seattle), or my namesake Great Aunt Patricia(Also fabulous cook, who owned a restaurant called the "short stop." "hey, so, my dry brine is missing something, would you add more rosemary? Or Allspice?"
It takes them a while to get here, but they usually steer me in the right direction. Cept Storamorfar (great maternal grandfather), he's kind of bitter and mean. Haust blót, the Viking fall solstice (Sept 21-23 for my house, this year we did it till the blood moon was over with) celebration, is the easiest and fastest time for me to get a hold of them. I think that it's because they all passed onto Folkvang(good non warrior afterlife) between July-November, so they can slip away faster.

For immediate every day needs, I have my tumtars, they're basically the only fae folk you'd want in your house. Typically you parents ask for either one or a couple to watch over you as a baby. Or you ask them to watch over your home, barn, garage etc. Essentially you pay them in oatmeal and they become like second parents.

I grew up in a devout Lutheran family that was passionate about their Swedish ancestry. Oma says mine tumtars are called Ella and Elling, but neither of us is fluent in what the fae folk speak, and thus far they've stuck with me. So I can only guess that they really really like me.

A prime example for tumtars is the amount of times they push me to a safer landing spot. I haven't quite gotten the hang of not being an uncoordinated toddler yet, so I fall over nothing, trip over my own foot etc. So most of the time instead of a more serious injury, I'll just get a big bruise and an anti-inflammatory shot to the tukus at my doctors office.
